Take-home pay calculator
See what actually lands in your account after tax, the Medicare levy and any HELP repayment – per week, fortnight, month or year. Uses the 2026-27 rates for Australian residents.
Overtime and salary sacrifice
Your employer super plus salary sacrifice is over the $32,500 concessional cap for 2026-27. Amounts above the cap are taxed at your marginal rate.

How it works
take-home = gross − salary sacrifice − income tax − Medicare − HELP, divided by 12, 26 or 52 for the pay period.
Worked example
Sam earns $90,000 a year plus super and claims the tax-free threshold. Income tax is $4,020 + 30% of $45,000 = $17,520. The Medicare levy is 2% = $1,800. That leaves $70,680 a year, or $2,718.46 a fortnight. Sam's employer also pays $10,800 super into Sam's fund.
If Sam has a HELP debt, add a repayment of 15% × ($90,000 − $69,528) = $3,070.80, bringing take-home down to $67,609.20 a year ($2,600.35 a fortnight).
If Sam (no HELP debt) salary sacrifices $10,000, taxable income drops to $80,000. Tax becomes $14,520 and Medicare $1,600, so take-home is $63,880 – only $6,800 less than before, while super goes up by the full $10,000.

Common questions
Is this the same as what my employer will withhold?
It'll be close, but not exact. Employers use the ATO's withholding tables, which round each pay. This calculator works out the tax for the whole year and splits it evenly, which is what you'll actually owe at tax time.
What does 'super on top' versus 'super included' mean?
Most jobs quote a base salary with super paid on top, so a $90,000 job also gets 12% super ($10,800) into your fund. Some quote a 'package' that already includes super – in that case your taxable salary is the package divided by 1.12.
How does salary sacrifice change my pay?
Salary you sacrifice into super comes out before tax, so your taxable income drops and you pay less income tax and Medicare. It's taxed at 15% inside your fund instead. It still counts toward HELP repayments, and together with your employer's super it's capped at $32,500 a year for 2026-27 before extra tax applies.
How is overtime worked out?
Your hourly rate is your salary divided by your ordinary hours × 52. Overtime hours are paid at that rate times the multiplier you choose. Employers generally don't have to pay super on overtime, so it isn't added to super here.
How do HELP repayments work now?
Since 1 July 2025, you only repay on the part of your income above the threshold, rather than a percentage of everything. For 2026-27 that's nothing up to $69,528, then 15c for each dollar over it, rising to 17c above $129,717. Your employer withholds an amount each pay and it's squared up when you lodge your return.
When shouldn't I claim the tax-free threshold?
You normally claim it from one employer only – usually your main job. If you have a second job, that employer withholds tax without the threshold, so more is taken out each pay.
Why is my Medicare levy lower than 2%?
If your taxable income is low you pay a reduced levy, or none at all. This calculator applies the single-person reduction; family thresholds, exemptions and the Medicare levy surcharge aren't included.
